NPCI launches Bharat Bill Payment System pilot project


National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the umbrella organisation for all retail payments system in India, has launched a pilot project for Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) with 26 Bharat Bill Payment Operating Units (BBPOUs). In the first phase, BBPS will cover repetitive payments for everyday utility services such as electricity, water, gas, telephone and Direct-to-Home (DTH).

Sony Pictures Network acquires Ten Sports for $385 mn


Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) and ZEE have entered into definitive agreements to acquire TEN Sports Network and its subsidiaries for $385 million. The acquisition will add five sports channels, TEN 1, TEN 1 HD, TEN 2, TEN 3, TEN Golf HD to SPN's existing portfolio of channels. The acquisition not only makes SPN’s bouquet the largest in the country, but also gives the network presence in the Indian sub-continent, Maldives, Singapore, Hong Kong, Middle East, Caribbean.

Bhutan set to host Asian Tennis Tour event next month


Land of the thunder dragon’s Nation Bhutan is set to become the fourth Asian country to host a tournament on the Asian Tennis Tour. India, Thailand and Iranhave already hosted a series of tournaments, both men and women, on ATT and Bhutan is scheduled to host its maiden event from September 16 to 18.

First military heritage website launched


India's first military heritage website, coloursofglory.org was launched by Glory Foundation at Chennai. A veteran of the 1971 Indo-Pak war, city based Captain D.P.Ramachandran who is also the executive trustee of the foundation declared the war heroes of South India held great significance to the history of India.

Govt panel clears 16 highway projects across 11 states


The Government has approved 16 highway projects in 11 states to be executed at a cost of 7,457 crore rupees. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Road Transport and Highways Secretary Sanjay Mitra said, the standing Finance Committee has cleared these projects for 622 km.

Mobikwik joins hand with 12 state electricity boards


India's largest digital payment company, MobiKwik has announced coalition with 12 state electricity boards. The MobiKwik took this initiative ahead of its expansion plan to set up a national base for utility payments. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tripura, Meghalaya, Calcutta, Rajasthan and union territories of Daman and Diu are the states inclusive in the coalition agreement.

PTC fin arm ties up with banks for clean energy project loans


Ptc India Financial Services (PFS) has tied up with banks that will provide loans to companies engaged in renewable energy (RE) production. Upon this collaboration these banks set to letter of credit (LC) based on the issue letter of comfort (LOC) issued by PFS, to project companies in the renewable space with diligence on certain parameters.

State Bank of Travancore appoints new Chief GM Ashok Kumar Pradhan


Ashok Kumar Pradhan has taken over as its Chief General Manager of State Bank Of Travancore. He succeeds S Adikesavan, whose transfer to Hyderabad had kicked up a controversy recently. Pradhan, who is from Cuttack in Orissa, started his banking career in 1985 as a Probationary Officer in State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.

Mizoram Assembly becomes 13th state to ratify GST


Mizoram Assembly has ratified the goods and services tax (GST) constitutional amendment bill by adopting an official resolution. 13 states, including Delhi and Bihar, have so far approved the legislation.

NABARD sanctions loan for 10 MW solar plant in Haryana


The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)  has sanctioned a loan of Rs 204.67 crore for Haryana under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund for projects including a 10 MW solar plant at Panipat thermal power station.

Tunisian parliament passes confidence vote for its new government


The parliament in Tunisia passed a confidence vote in the Government of National Unity. The government of Prime Minister Youssef Chahed was supported by 167 of the 217 members of parliament 22 were against and five abstained. The move came after the majority of lawmakers in the Tunisian parliament passed a vote of no confidence in Premier Habib Essid, which followed his unwillingness to form a new unity government.

Finance Ministry sets up panel to suggest steps to promote card payments


Union Finance Ministry Arun Jaitley has set up a committee to consider incentives such as cash back schemes and tax rebates for promoting card and digital payments in a step towards discouraging cash transactions. With an aim to discourage cash transactions, the Finance Ministry has set up this high-level committee to suggest steps to promote card payments through incentives like tax rebates and cash back schemes.

Karnataka Bank has come up with a mobile application named KBL-SMARTz built on the unified payments interface (UPI) platform of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The App was launched by the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) P Jayarama Bhat, Karnataka Bank.
