National Panchayati Raj Diwas being observed today


Every year April 24 is being observed as National Panchayati Raj Diwas across India. This day marks the passing of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992 that came into force with effect from 24 April 1993.

On this occasion, 20 best Panchayats from all over the country will be awarded by Prime Minister at a function to be held in Lucknow today. The Kuther Gram Panchayat of Himachal Pradesh will also get this award for its best works. This Gram Panchayat was the first to become open defecation free (ODF) and was awarded sum of five lakh Rupees.
