23rd March : World Meterological Day As well As Martyrs Day In India

World Meteorological Day is celebrated every year on 23 March to commemorate the entry into force in 1950 of the convention that created the World Meteorological Organization.


The day also highlights the huge contribution that National Meteorological and Hydro logical Services make to the safety and well being of society. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), its 188 Members and the worldwide meteorological community celebrate World Meteorological Day around a chosen theme. Martyrs Day (Sarvodaya Day or Shaheed Diwas) in India

Martyrs Day (Sarvodaya Day or Shaheed Diwas) in India 2016 would be celebrated on 30th of January and 23rd of March. Martyrs day in India is celebrated to pay homage to the victims who fought for the freedom, welfare and progress of the India and sacrificed their lives. In India, there are several days declared as Martyrs Day but mainly 30th January and 23rd March is celebrated every year all over the country. 

The 23rd of March is declared as the martyrs day in India to remember the sacrifice and pay homage to the Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar. Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were fought for India against the British rule for independence.

In the year 1929, on 8th of April he with Rajguru and Sukhdev together companions threw bombs over the Central Legislative Assembly reading slogan “Inquilab Zindabad”. They charged with the murder and hanged at 7.30 pm in the Lahore jail on 23th of March in the year 1931. 

It is since then to honour their sacrifices given for getting India freed from the clutches of the Britishmen, March 23 is observed in the country as Shaheed Diwas. Various events were held in the city on the occasion where rich tributes were given to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
