Every Year 30th March is observed as National Doctors’ Day. Mostly the United States is to celebrate, thank and honor the medical practitioners for their contribution to society. The day is similarly celebrated in many countries. However, Doctors’ Day is observed on different days in other parts of the world.
The first Doctor’s Day was observed on March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. The idea came from Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond and the date chosen was the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery.
The United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution in 1958 commemorating the day following which legislation was introduced in the House and Senate to establish it as a national day in 1990. Former US president George W Bush designated March 30 as National Doctor’s Day in the country Oct. 30, 1990.
In India, Doctor’s Day is celebrated July 1 to honour Bharat Ratna recipient physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was the first chief minister of West Bengal. Meanwhile, the day is observed Feb. 27, Aug. 23 and Dec. 3 in Vietnam, Cuba and Iran, respectively.

The celebrations are indicative of the respect that they command in the lives of their patients and thus obligate them to fulfill their responsibilities as well.

hank them wholeheartedly.
Happy Doctors’ Day 2016.
