All About Asia Cup 2016

The much awaited Asia Cup 2016 will kick off from Today, where hosts Bangladesh will take on India in the opener at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. The 2016 Asia Cup is a Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket tournament to be held from 24 February to 6 March 2016. It will be the 13th edition of the Asia Cup, the fifth to be held in Bangladesh, and the first to be played using the T20I format.

Along with Bangladesh (the host) and Sri Lanka (the defending champions from the 2014 event), the tournament will include India, Pakistan, and one ICC associate member, the United Arab Emirates, who qualified from a qualifier played from 19 to 22 February 2016.

The Asia Cup is one of the lesser fancied tournaments in terms of public imagination. Among st the many multilateral series being played in international cricket, this is one tournament that has struggled to find its own niche. Tournaments like the World Cup, World T20 and the ICC Champions Trophy all hold its own place in the public memory mainly because of the relevance of the prefix of ICC before it.

The Asia Cup however struggles to capture that fascination mainly because of the anonymity of the Asian Cricket Council. However, the tournament is now going to act as a percussor for the World T20 and will be played in the same format unlike previous editions.

In Asia Cup Indian team will consists Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Pawan Negi, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Parthiv Patel.
