Archana Ramasundram : 1st woman IPS officer to head paramilitary force

A Tamil Nadu-cadre IPS officer Archana Ramasundaram took charge as the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

The SSB is entrusted with guarding the country’s frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan. Archana, now 58, is to lead the SSB till September 30, the date of her superannuation. Ms. Ramasundram, who was the Director of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in her previous posting, is the first woman chief in the six-decade-long combined history of the five paramilitary forces, the CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and the SSB.
So the question arise what is Paramilitary ?
A paramilitary is a semi-militarized force whose organizational structure, training, subculture, and (often) function are similar to those of a professional military, and which is not included as part of a state’s formal armed forces and SSB is one of the type of paramilitary forces.
Archana’s appointment is inspirational for all Indian girls. However, this is not the only source of inspiration one can look up to but yes for sure she is one of them who can inspire.
