China, Russia conducted joint naval exercises Joint Sea-2016

Chinese and Russian naval forces began joint naval exercises in the South China Sea. The 8 day exercise would highlight marine corps units in “live-fire drills, sea crossing and island landing operations and island defense.

The vessels were divided into two fleets and confrontations were staged off the eastern waters of Zhanjiang in Guangdong, which is close to the Chinese coast. The China-Russia naval exercises were an annual event, with previous versions taking place in the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea, the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea, among other locations.
