Countdown for IRNSS – IG begins from Sriharikota

The countdown for the launch of the country’s seventh and final navigation satellite, IRNSS-1G, from the spaceport of Sriharikota has began today. It will be launched by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) – C33 on 28th of April.

The Mission Readiness Review Committee and the Launch Authorization Board gave its approval on Monday for the countdown that began at 9.20 AM today for the launch scheduled on Thursday at 12.50 PM from the first launch pad at the spaceport of Sriharikota.

IRNSS-1G is the last in the series of the the Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), comprising seven satellites that would give a fillip to Indian space agency’s tryst to set up its own independent regional navigation system on par with the US based Global Positioning System. However, 4 satellites would be sufficient to start operations of the IRNSS system, the remaining three would make it more “accurate and efficient.

So lets discuss some questions related to this post :
1. Name the satellite which is all set to launch on 28th April, 2016 ?
2. The IRNSS-1G is going to launched from which spacecraft station ?
3. Expand the term IRNSS .
