Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal flagged off the trial run of the first driverless metro trains in New Delhi.
Unattended Train Operation (UTO) enabled trains were put on trials in Phase 3 of DMRC, line 7 (Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar – 58.59 km) and line 8 (Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden – 38.23 km). These metro trains have extremely high levels of automation, which will have the capability of running without drivers in the future. However, these trains will run with drivers initially.
