Discus Thrower Seema Punia clinches One More Berth For India At Rio Olympics

Booking one more Rio berth for India, Asian Games gold medalist Seema Punia qualified for the Rio Olympics at the Pat Young’s Throwers Classic 2016 at California in the United States.


The 32-year-old athlete crossed the Rio Games qualification standard of 61.00 m with an effort of 62.62 meters at the Hartnell College Throwers complex. Becoming the 19th Indian track and field athlete to have qualified for Rio Olympics, she won gold in the event beating 2008 Olympic discus throw champion Stephanie Brown-Trafton of USA. Stephanie won silver with a 60.50-metre throw.
