According to the Union tourism and culture minister Mahesh Sharma, 14 out of 16 loss making hotels owned by state-run ITDC will be sold off. For these hotels, the process to privatize them has already started, which will improve the financial health of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). He also stated that the finance ministry is taking forward the disinvestment plan to totally offload government’s stakes in all the ITDC-run hotels except the Ashoka and Samrat hotels in the national capital.
Currently, the public sector undertaking ITDC runs 16 hotels in Delhi, Patna, Jammu, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Puri, Bhopal, Bharatpur, Jaipur, Guwahati, Mysore, Puducherry and Itanagar. Earlier, during 1999 to 2004 NDA’s government, it had divested its stakes in 18 ITDC hotels, bringing down the number of state-run hotels from 34 to 16.
So let’s discuss some questions related to this post :
1. The government has planned to sell off how many ITDC hotels ?
2. At present total how many hotels are running under ITDC and also expand the term ITDC ?
