The Gujarat government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ministry of civil aviation to develop 11 airports and airstrips to boost regional connectivity.
The central government’s new civil aviation policy emphasises regional connectivity to serve unconnected or under-served towns and boost infrastructure. In Gujarat, the airports in Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Surat, Porbandar, Mehsana, Mandvi, Amreli, Kandla, Keshod and Deesa will be developed. These fall under the “unserved-underserved category”. After Maharashtra and Jharkhand, Gujarat has become the third state to have signed an agreement with the centre to boost regional connectivity.
