Hero Group Co-Founder Satyanand Munjal Passed Away


The co-founder of Hero Cycles group, Mr. Satyanand Munjal has passed away in Ludhiana. He was 99 year old. He was popularly known as ‘mahatma’ for being devoted to several social causes related to the Arya Samaj. He was from a small town called Kamalia but now this town comes under Pakistan.

Mr. Munjal had co-founded Hero Group with his three brothers named as Mr. Om Prakash Munjal, Mr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal and Mr. Dayanand Munjal. He is survived by six children-five sons and a daughter. In 1943 Munjal family has sifted to Amritsar from Lahore. At the age of 17, Mr. Munjal has received an award at Quetta (Baluchistan) for his devotion to the Arya Samaj.

Apart from the Hero Group he has also made several new initiative such as Bahadur Chand Munjal (BCM) Arya schools, Hero DMC Heart Institute, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). These are remain his most notable works. Mr. Munjal also propagated teachings of the arya samaj extensively.

In 1956, Munjal brothers has started the bicycle unit in Ludhiana and named it as Hero Cycles. And in 1975 Hero Cycles became the largest manufacturer of bicycles in India with a production of 7500 cycles per day. But in 1986, the company has produced over 18500 cycles a day, the highest in global reckoning. With this, the company has made in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world.
