HRD Minister Smriti Irani Releases Universities Ranking


The Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani has released the ‘India Rankings 2016’ at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. This is first of its kind indigenous ranking framework for higher education institutions has come out with a list of top 100 universities and institutes in Engineering, Management and Pharmacy.

As per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), IIT Madras has bagged the top engineering college slot followed by IIT Mumbai and IIT Kharagpur. Top management institution is IIM Bangalore while Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is the best university in India.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is ranked as country’s third best university followed by Hyderabad Central University which stands at rank 4. Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the top pharmacy institute in the country.

Smriti Irani said the effort is to make this ranking system an annual affair and more categories will be added so that students can know about an institute before taking admission.
