In a first, human thought mapped

American scientists have, for the first time, successfully tracked human thought by imaging rapidly fluctuating brain activity.

This was made possible using fast functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI), which measures changes in blood oxygenation associated with higher order brain functions. The new discovery is a significant step towards mapping human cognitive functions such as perception, attention, and awareness conducted by the US National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.
