India’s first online interactive portal Sahapedia Launched by the Union Government

The Government of India has recently launched India’s first online interactive portal named as Sahapedia, on the cultural heritage of the country. The portal is a collaborative knowledge resource on the arts, culture and heritage of India.

The portal Sahapedia is a non-profit society led by former TCS chairman S. Ramadorai, who is the head of National Skill Development Agency. The portal is accessible to all and is a strong initiative towards the digitization. The portal also provide research on the traditional art forms of India and their importance in the modern era.

Sahapedia aims to educate the people of India about the traditions, visual arts, performing arts, literature and languages that is scattered across the country. The portal consists of information ranging from visual arts, music, literature, cinema, dance, architecture, ecological systems, cuisine, percussion and oral histories among others. 

The word Sahapedia is made up with the Sanskrit word ‘Saha’ which means ‘Together with’ which is an invitation to explore together the richness of our cultural landscapes.
