India’s travel and tourism sector ranks 7th in the world in terms of its total contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to a new report of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), 2016.
According to data, the travel and tourism sector generated Rs 14.1 trillion (USD208.9 billion) in 2016, which is world’s 7th largest in terms of absolute size the sum is equivalent to 9.6% of India’s GDP. The USA topped the list followed by China and Germany at the second and third position, respectively.
