After establishing the reliability of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) to put foreign satellites in orbit, India’s space agency is seeking tap the market for commercial launch services using the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
A US space agency is likely to launch its satellite from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, using expertise of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space, Jitendra Singh informed in Lok Sabha.
Antrix Corporation Ltd, the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation, is in preliminary discussions with several countries on possible satellite launches using the GSLV.According to ISRO chairman AS Kiran Kumar, the immediate focus is on completing the second vehicle (rocket) assembly line that would enable increasing the launch frequency.
