Jaitley releases silver coin to mark Martyrdom Day of Banda Singh Bahadur


Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has released a commemorative silver coin to mark the 300th martyrdom day of Sikh General Banda Singh Bahadur. The coin is manufactured in association with Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India (MMTC) which is headquartered in New Delhi. On the occasion of release, Mr. Jaitley suggested  Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee to make a documentary on the life and times of Banda Singh Bahadur by which people can know the rich history and tradition of Punjab.

Banda Singh, who was born in 1670 in Rajouri, and had sacrificed his life at the age of 46 to protect honour and tradition. He was given the title of Bahadur by 10th Sikh Guru Guru Gobind Singh. He was appointed by Guru Gobind Singh as his deputy and military lieutenant. He assembled a fighting force and led the struggle against the Mughal Empire in 1710. He also established the first sovereign Sikh state.
