LAMITYE 2016 : A Joint Military Exercise Between India And Seychelles

LAMITYE 2016 , The 7th edition of India, Seychelles joint military exercise has begun in Victoria, Seychelles. The fourteen day exercise has been conducted at Seychelles Defence Academy (SDA), Victoria till February 28, 2016. 

India and Seychelles have been conducting joint exercises since 2001 and Lamitye’, which means friendship in Creole, the local dialect, is conducted biennially with the aim of enhancing military cooperation and interoperability between the two countries. In 2016 exercise, the Indian contingent will comprise of an Infantry platoon and representatives from the Special Forces. The Seychelles People’s Defense Forces (SPDF) will be represented by 20 personnel from Tazar (Special Forces Unit) and 32 from Seychelles Infantry. The concluding phase of the exercise will incorporate a tactical exercise will be witnessed by senior military officers from both the countries.
