Manoj Bajpayee To Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award For ‘Aligarh’


Renowned actor Manoj Bajpayee will be going to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the movie Aligarh. The actor will receive the award in the best actor category of Critics Choice. The award will be presented on 1st of May, 2016.

The movie ‘Aligarh’ is a biographical drama directed by Hansal Mehta and the actor Manoj Bajpayee has played a role of Professor ‘Ramchandra Siras’ in it. The Bihar based actor, Manoj Bajpayee, who has also worked in Telgu language films, has already won the two National Film Awards and two Film Fare Awards.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the India’s highest award in Cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The recipient is honoured for their “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema” and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry. As of 2014, the award comprises a Golden Lotus medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of 1,000,000 (US$15,000).
