Christmas is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural festival. For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and customs that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the foundation of their religion. Popular customs include the exchange of gifts, decorating Christmas trees, visiting the church, sharing meals with family and friends and, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive at midnight.
December is the season to be jolly as the blithe festival of Christmas is upon us. Christmas, the festival of food, fun and family, will be celebrated today by millions of people across the world. People, along with decorating the Christmas trees, also put up Christmas stockings, lights and tinsel around their homes. Come December, many children draw out the list of presents they would want Santa to bring them on Christmas. And the merry spirit of Christmas isn’t just for children, the youths equally enjoy the merrymaking. Several people participate in various plays and events being held especially on Christmas Day and also get together with friends and family to sing festive Christmas carols. This is usually followed by a grand feast where loved ones dine together.
Christmas mornings are usually spent opening gifts, a tradition that follows wishing one another a Merry Christmas. Christmas is a day for people to spread cheer and joy, especially with those who are lesser fortunate than them. The bells are ringing everywhere, and Santa’s on his way.
