Microsoft to buy LinkedIn for $26bn

Software giant Microsoft has announced that it is going to acquire professional social platform LinkedIn for $196 per share. The deal is in all cash transaction valued at $26.2 billion but initially, Microsoft will finance the transaction primarily through the issuance of new indebtedness. The transaction is expected to close this calendar year. After the deal also Mr. Jeff Weiner will remain the CEO of LinkedIn and will report to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Reid Hoffman, Chairman of the board, co-founder and controlling shareholder of LinkedIn, and Weiner both fully support this transaction. However, the acquisition is still subject to approval by other LinkedIn shareholders and regulators. LinkedIn has more than 9,700 full-time employees and is headquartered in Mountain View, California. It has offices in 30 cities, including Bengaluru, Beijing, Chicago, Dubai, Dublin, Hong Kong and London. While, in India, LinkedIn has about 650 employees and R&D operations in Bengaluru.
