Nokia name to return to mobile phones after licensing deal

Finland-based companies, Nokia and HMD Global Oy (HMD) has signed a 10-year licensing deal to market Nokia-branded phones and tablets. As per this deal, Nokia will receive royalty payments from HMD for sales of Nokia-branded mobile products, covering both brand and intellectual property rights.


Earlier in 2014, Nokia has sold its entire handset business to Microsoft Corp and now focuses on telecoms network equipmentWhile the deal majorly covered manufacturing, sales and distribution, Nokia held on to its phone patents. Although, the products will be made by Taiwan’s Foxconn and Nokia will receive an undisclosed royalty on sales.
