The government has made a selection committee headed by cabinet secretary P K Sinha to shortlist the candidates for Reserve Bank of India governor post. The decision in this regard was taken earlier by the Prime Minister in consultation with the finance minister. But now the appointment of Reserve Bank of India governor post will be made by the financial sector regulatory appointment search committee (FSRASC). The FSRASC will draw up a list of potential candidates and hand their recommendations over to the government. The government will take the final call on the governor post.
So far, the decision of the RBI governor’s post has been made by the prime minister and finance minister. Although, the chiefs of other regulatory bodies like Sebi have been shortlisted by FSRASC only. The FSRASC was set up last year. The FSRASC panel includes the cabinet secretary, additional principal secretary to Prime Minister, PK Mishra and three outside experts- Rajiv Kumar (Centre for Policy Research), Manoj Panda (Institute of Economic Growth) and Bimal N Patel (Gujarat National Law University). Apart from this, a finance ministry representative will be a special invitee.
So let’s discuss some questions related to this post :
1. The government has made which committee to shortlist the candidates for RBI governor’s post?
2. Name the person who is going head the FSRASC for the RBI governor candidacy?
