President Ram Nath Kovind visited the Army base camp in Siachen, becoming the first President of India to visit the world’s highest battlefield in 14 years. The previous visit was undertaken by former president APJ Abdul Kalam in April 2004.
Some of the posts on Siachen are located at an altitude of over 20,000 feet where the temperature drops up to minus 52 degrees Celsius.
