The cards, which bear the emblem of the United India Insurance Company, entitle the holder to free-of-cost treatment up to Rs 30,000, whereas the state government had claimed that the beneficiary would be entitled to free treatment up to Rs 50,000 per annum. Notably, 11,000 families were listed in the survey for smart cards here, but only 1,100 cards would be distributed, officials had stated at a function held here at Market Committee.

Earlier in November 2012, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had launched the Bhai Kanhaiya Sehat Sewa Scheme for the cooperative society members which covered cashless medical help up to Rs 1.5 lakh while another scheme for farmers and poor people offered cashless medical help up to Rs 30,000.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal approved Rs 750 crore for the repair and strengthening of 6,500 km link road in the state. He gave on the spot directions to officers of Public Works Department to ensure the construction as early as possible.
Chief Minister also took stock of ongoing Rs. 1115 crore project of strengthening of road infrastructure of 7825 kilometers link road and directed the authorities concerned to accomplish this project before 30 June. Additional Chief Secretary of PWD informed that more than 56 percent construction under this project had been completed while the remaining work would also be finished within stipulated time frame.
