Under the Digital India programme, the Union Ministry of Railway has launched 3 Information Technology enabled apps to bring the transparency in system on the sidelines of Digital India initiative. These apps were launched by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu in Mumbai through Video Conferencing.
These apps includes – Handheld terminals for Indian Railways travelling ticket examiners (TTEs), a paperless unreserved ticketing mobile application and a facility for E-booking of disposable linen on trains.
“Indian Railways is heading towards Digital India to bring transparency in Indian Railways and thus these IT enabled applications have been launched,” said Suresh Prabhu at the ceremony at Rail Bhavan in Mumbai.
The application was earlier launched in selected sectors of South, Western, Northern, Eastern and Central Railways. It is pilot project of Northern Railway that will help in updating status of passenger list of the whole train. Based on the list food-chart/occupancy chart will be manually prepared. Paperless unreserved ticketing mobile application can be used for booking unreserved tickets on many suburban and some long distance routes. E-booking of disposable linen on trains allows passengers to avail bedroll kits through online booking and from IRCTC set up select outlets on the station.
