State finance ministers to meet on GST in Kolkata tomorrow

The two-days meeting of the committee on Goods and Services Tax (GST) consisting of the finance ministers of all the states will commence from tomorrow in Kolkata in the presence of Union Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley. During the two-day meeting, efforts will be to reach a consensus among the states on GST Bill and is likely to discuss issues such as the proposed additional 1% tax on inter-state sales, which is opposed by the Congress party earlierThe Finance minister of West Bengal Mr. Amit Mitra will preside over the meeting. Presently, he is the Chairperson of the Special Empowered Committee on GST consisting of Finance ministers of the states

The forthcoming meeting in Kolkata will also follow the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declaration of support to the GST, which has come as a boost for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s efforts to have the bill passed in the upper house of parliament during monsoon session next month. As the bill for a pan-India GST has been passed by the Lok Sabha, the Indian parliament’s lower house, but is stalled in the Rajya Sabha where the ruling National Democratic Alliance currently lacks a majority. As the constitution amendment bill needs to be ratified by more than half the states of the Indian republic.

So let’s discuss some questions related to this post :
1. The two-days State finance ministers meet on GST is going to commence at which place?
2. Who is the chairperson of the Special Empowered Committee on GST which consists all the finance minister of the state?
