Prakash, a 22-year old from Kerala will participate in the men’s 200 m butterfly even, while Katariya, from Delhi, will participate in women’s 200 m freestyle. The two swimmers were chosen by the Universality rule, which allows one male and one female swimmer to participate in the Olympics if no swimmer from the country has managed to qualify.
Sajan Prakash and Shivani Katariya have been selected as the country’s wild-card entries for the Rio Olympics next month, after none of the swimmers managed to make the ‘A’ cut that is required for direct qualification.
