16-Year-Old Lakshmanan Meyyappan Becomes Youngest Chartered Accountant

Lakshmanan Meyyappan has been awarded the title of a Chartered Accountant, having received the Guinness World Record as the world’s youngest male Chartered Accountant at the age of 16 years and 141 days in Dubai.

Notably, his achievement is not limited to his age but also represents an impressive speed and breadth of his academic and professional path in finance.

Meyyappan’s interest in accounting emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic after completing his Class 10 board examinations. He was introduced to accounting principles by his mother who also holds the ACCA title. Having been impressed by the subject, he decided to obtain the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification.

From Class 10 to World Record

• Already at the age of 15, Meyyappan has started studying for ACCA. He finished the qualification within about one year and established the groundwork for his career in finance.
• This achievement was later recognised by Guinness World Records as being the youngest male Chartered Accountant at the age of 16 years and 141 days.
• The record has been established in Dubai, where Meyyappan continues developing his academic and professional career.

Continuing His Journey in Finance

• To complete the ACCA does not end of the Meyyappan’s academic accomplishments. He further obtained the CFA charter, expanding his knowledge in financial analysis.
• At present, he studies for an MSc in Finance degree while obtaining relevant experience in the financial sphere.
• Meyyappan serves as a Senior Research Analyst at Century Financial in Dubai.
• His professional responsibilities include investment research, financial analysis, and making decisions in the financial market environment.

Finance Interest Emerged In Pandemic

• Meyyappan’s interest in the Accounting arose amid the pandemic lockdown period. After the completion of Class 10 exams, he was taught basic accounting through his mother who was a graduate of ACCA.
• Instead of viewing accounting as any other academic course, he developed an interest to know how the financial system functions hence made him take up ACCA even at an age when other students were only thinking about choosing either academic or career stream.
• His quick progression in turn helped him obtain professional qualifications and financial research career.

More Than Academic Performance

• Although he is highly dedicated in academic and professional pursuits, Meyyappan also has other interests beyond finance. In his free time, he loves building watches thus showing an interest in creativity and craftsmanship.
• Even his approach to education is not just qualification collection. Reflecting on his Guinness World Records achievement, Meyyappan stated that for him qualifications are not about race but about practical knowledge of finance and development of lifelong skills.
