6th Shaastra Rapid FIDE Rated Chess Tournament at IIT Madras

IIT Madras is set to host the prestigious ‘6th Shaastra Rapid FIDE Rated Chess Tournament’ on March 30 and 31, 2024. The tournament, sanctioned by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), will draw the participation of esteemed players from across the globe, including Grandmasters, International Masters, and Women Grandmasters.

Participant Lineup and Global Representation

  • The event will showcase the talents of six Grandmasters, sixteen International Masters, three Women Grandmasters, and a Women International Master.
  • Players from various nations such as Australia, England, the USA, and Singapore will compete alongside over 35 IIT Madras players, highlighting the international appeal of the tournament.

FIDE Rating and Inclusivity

  • As a FIDE-rated tournament, participants have the opportunity to earn official FIDE ratings, making it a significant platform for newcomers.
  • The tournament attracts players of diverse ages, ranging from 6 to 72 years, demonstrating the universal enthusiasm for chess.

Live Streaming and Global Reach

  • The top 15 boards of the tournament will be streamed live across multiple online chess platforms, enabling enthusiasts worldwide to follow the action.
  • This initiative enhances the tournament’s global visibility and contributes to the promotion of chess culture on a broader scale.

Prize Fund and Growth of Chess Culture

  • With a total prize fund of INR 5,00,000 and the first prize set at INR 65,000, the tournament offers substantial rewards, attracting a wide range of players.
