Amit Shah Inaugurates Banas Dairy’s Bio-CNG Plant

On 6 December 2025, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed Bio-CNG and Fertilizer Plant by Banas Dairy and laid the foundation stone for a 150-ton powder plant in Vav-Tharad district, Gujarat. The event marks a major step under the ambitious White Revolution 2.0, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to make India’s dairy sector more sustainable, self-sufficient, and profitable through cooperative models.

Highlights of the Inauguration

The newly inaugurated Bio-CNG and Fertilizer Plant is part of Banas Dairy’s innovative circular economy initiative. It will convert cow dung and other organic waste into renewable bio-fuel and organic manure, boosting both environmental sustainability and farmer incomes.

Shri Shah also laid the foundation stone for a milk powder plant, announced plans for high-value dairy products, and launched several other facilities, including a paneer plant and protein unit, as part of the dairy’s expansion.

These developments aim to strengthen Gujarat’s position as the hub of India’s cooperative dairy movement, with Banas Dairy now Asia’s largest milk-producing cooperative, having achieved an annual turnover of ₹24,000 crore.

White Revolution 2.0: Government’s Vision

Shri Amit Shah reaffirmed the Government of India’s focus on White Revolution 2.0, highlighting four key pillars,

  • National Gokul Mission
  • Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund
  • Restructured National Dairy Plan
  • National Animal Disease Control Programme

These initiatives aim to double farmers’ incomes, promote self-reliance, and expand value-added dairy production nationwide.

Empowering Rural Women Through Dairy

A recurring theme in Shah’s address was the extraordinary role of women in the success of Banas Dairy. He credited the “mothers and sisters of Banaskantha” for transforming their villages into economic powerhouses, with milk collection, processing, and distribution now entirely managed at the cooperative level, and profits directly deposited into their bank accounts weekly.

He described this transparent and grassroots model as a living example of women’s empowerment, unmatched by even the most well-funded global NGOs.

Circular Economy: The Future of Dairy

The circular dairy economy model launched by Banas Dairy includes,

  • Bio-CNG production from animal waste
  • Organic fertilizer manufacturing
  • High-value dairy products (protein powder, baby food, dairy whitener)
  • Cooperative-based animal feed production

Shah stated that this model would increase farmer income by at least 20%, even without an increase in milk volume. A complete ecosystem — from finance to technology — has already been developed to support this transformation.

National Impact and Future Plans

Shah announced that,

  • 250 dairy leaders from across India will visit Banas Dairy in January 2026 to learn from its success
  • Three new national-level cooperatives have been launched for seeds, organic products, and exports
  • Micro-ATMs are being used in milk cooperatives for financial services and logistical operations
  • The entire agriculture and dairy value chain, including cheese, khoya, oil, honey, and packaging, will now be covered under cooperative structures
  • He also handed a list of high-value global dairy products to Amul’s Chairman, urging immediate domestic production to tap into the global demand.
