Abhishek Sharma Hits Fastest T20I Century for India

Abhishek Sharma created history during a match against Afghanistan on 17 September 2026, where he hit a century in 30 balls in the third T20I match held in New Delhi. The left-handed batsman bettered Rohit Sharma’s record of the fastest century in T20I for India with a score of 100 runs in 35 balls that was made against Sri Lanka in 2017. This innings by Abhishek Sharma was also the quickest T20I century scored by any player playing in Test cricket.

Abhishek Sharma Hit 30 Ball Century

Abhishek started the onslaught from the first ball itself by targeting Azmatullah Omarzai by hitting two sixes and one boundary in the second over. In the same manner, he targeted Fazalhaq Farooqi in the same over, and hit two sixes along with two boundaries.

His fifty came in just 16 balls, which was jointly the fourth-fastest fifty in T20I by an Indian. This was also the sixth time when Abhishek had managed to score a T20I fifty in fewer than 20 balls.

From there, Abhishek went up a notch higher by hitting 51 runs off the next 14 balls to complete his century in 30 balls.

Abhishek Sharma’s Break-the-Bar Record

In the end, Abhishek was finally caught out in the tenth over while attempting to dispatch Rashid Khan’s googly to the boundary. He nicked the ball behind to the wicket-keeper, Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

He notched up an explosive 108 runs off 34 deliveries, with 102 of his runs coming from boundaries.

In doing so, he set a record for himself as the fastest hundred scorer in T20I format among the players playing for any Test nation. In general, only two men, Sahil Chauhan from Estonia and Muhammad Fahad from Turkey, had faster T20I centuries, taking 27 and 29 balls respectively to get their hundreds.
