Acharya Satyendra Das, Chief Priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Passes Away at 85

The chief priest of the revered Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, Acharya Satyendra Das, passed away at the age of 85 years on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. His demise has left the Hindu religious community and devotees of Lord Ram in deep mourning. The Acharya had been serving as the head priest of the temple since the age of 20 years, dedicating more than six decades of his life to religious service.

Final Journey and Cremation

Following his passing, arrangements were made to transport Acharya Satyendra Das’ mortal remains from Lucknow to Ayodhya. His disciple, Pradeep Das, confirmed that the cremation would take place on Thursday, February 8, 2024, on the banks of the sacred Saryu River in Ayodhya.

Devotees, temple authorities, and religious leaders gathered to pay their final respects, honoring the contributions of the chief priest who had been an integral part of Ayodhya’s spiritual and religious landscape for decades.

Acharya Satyendra Das was not just a spiritual leader but a symbol of unwavering faith for millions of devotees. His deep knowledge of Hindu scriptures, dedication to Lord Ram’s worship, and his role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement made him an esteemed figure among the Hindu religious community.

Role in the Ram Mandir

For over 65 years, Acharya Satyendra Das played a pivotal role in conducting religious rituals at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple. His guidance was instrumental in maintaining the sanctity and traditional worship practices at the temple. He witnessed the long legal and social struggle over the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute and lived to see the realization of the grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
