  • Born on September 5, 1933, in Matunga, Bombay.
  • Inspired by duty and patriotism, joined Armed Forces Academy in Dehradun in 1949.
  • Commissioned in the Indian Navy in September 1953 as a communications specialist.

  • Established Naval Academy in Cochin.
  • Commanded INS Beas during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
  • Served as Indian Naval Attache in Bonn, West Germany (1973-76).
  • Held positions of Fleet Commander of Eastern Naval Command and commander of Southern and Eastern Naval Commands.
  • Admirable leadership earned him respect and accolades from peers and subordinates.
  • Became the 13th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) on November 30, 1990.
