Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit Appointed Next Chief of the Air Staff
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has been appointed as the next Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) of the Indian Air Force. He is scheduled to assume charge on 31 October 2026, succeeding Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh.
The appointment marks an important leadership transition in the Indian Air Force, which plays a crucial role in protecting India’s airspace and maintaining the country’s aerial defence capabilities.
As Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit will become the professional head of the Indian Air Force. The position carries responsibility for the operational readiness, administration, modernisation and overall strategic direction of the force.
He will take over from Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, who has been serving as the Chief of the Air Staff.
The transition comes at a time when the Indian Air Force continues to focus on strengthening its operational capabilities, modernising its aircraft fleet and improving coordination across the armed forces.
The Chief of the Air Staff is one of the senior-most military appointments in India. The officer heading the Indian Air Force is responsible for advising the government on matters related to air power and overseeing the force’s preparedness for both peacetime and operational requirements.
The Chief also plays an important role in shaping long-term defence planning, training, technology adoption and joint operations with the Indian Army and Indian Navy.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. It was officially established on 8 October 1932.
Its primary responsibility is to secure Indian airspace and conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict. Over the years, the IAF has developed into one of the world’s major air forces, operating fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters and various support systems.
Indian Air Force Day is celebrated every year on 8 October to commemorate the foundation of the force.
