Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, officially inaugurated a centralized Aviation Security Control Centre (ASCC) established by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in New Delhi. The primary objective behind this initiative is to effectively address the prevailing security challenges. The ASCC will be responsible for monitoring all potential threats and social media activity pertaining to the 66 civil airports currently under the CISF’s security coverage.
The ASCC operates through “24×7 real-time data monitoring and trend analysis of passengers and air traffic.” Equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, including a data center, research and development lab, and a dedicated war room for emergencies, the centre efficiently processes information.
It receives continuous real-time data from the security operations control centres (SOCCs) at the 66 airports, which includes major civil aviation facilities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar, among others. These airports are known for their high volume of activity and heightened sensitivity. The ASCC provides accurate and up-to-date information on passenger traffic at any given time, enabling optimal resource allocation and utilization.
The CISF, responsible for aviation security, will oversee various aspects at the 66 airports it covers. These include monitoring bomb threat calls, VVIP movements, major incidents, passenger clearance time, and the utilization of security gadgets and queue management systems. The CISF, functioning under the Union home ministry’s command, offers armed security cover to these airports as part of its aviation security group (ASG).
