On January 9, 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the National Improvised Explosive Device Data Management System (NIDMS). This is India’s first platform that records details of all bomb blasts in the country from 1999 to today. The system will help police and security agencies investigate terrorist incidents more effectively.
The NIDMS is an online database managed by the National Security Guard (NSG) in Manesar, Haryana. It allows police, Central Armed Police Forces, and other investigative agencies to access data on any explosion or IED incident in India. The platform connects scattered data and uses Artificial Intelligence to analyse patterns, helping agencies respond faster to terrorist threats.
Amit Shah said the NIDMS would be very useful for investigating terrorist attacks, understanding explosion trends, and developing strategies to prevent such incidents. The system can show links between incidents, such as the type of explosives or devices used, helping authorities predict and prevent future attacks.
The platform collects detailed information about each blast, including location, type of explosion, and devices used. For example, the same timer used in the 2024 Rameswaram cafe blast was also used in the 2022 Mangaluru blast. Police can use these links to identify suspects and understand terrorist patterns.
The NSG will now have regional hubs in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad, with a new hub coming in Ayodhya. These hubs will reduce response time, enabling the NSG to reach any emergency location in 1 to 1.5 hours once all hubs are fully operational.
