Andhra Pradesh is one of the 28 states in India, and it is located in the southern part of India. The neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh are Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, and Odisha. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were within the same region, in 2014 Telangana was made into a separate state and the capital of Andhra Pradesh is Amaravati.

Andhra Pradesh: History

  • The history of Andhra Pradesh starts with a group of people known as Andhras, who was mentioned in the Aitareya Brahmana, a Sanskrit text. The Aitareya Brahmana says that the Andhras moved to the southern part of India and left northern India from the banks of River Yamuna.
  • The Assaka Mahajanapada, one of the sixteen Vedic Mahajanapadas, includes Andhra, Maharastra, and Telangana.
  • The Archaeological evidence from the places such as Amaravati, Dharanikota, and Vaddamanu suggests that the Andhra region was a part of the Mauryan Empire.
  • Andhra Pradesh is the first state of India which is formed on a purely linguistic basis in 1953.
  • During the Mediaeval period, one of the most powerful empires, The Vijayanagar Empire flourished in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Some other dynasties that flourished in this region were Bahmani Sultanate and Qutb Shahi.

  • Andhra Pradesh has three physiological regions: the coastal plains, the mountain ranges, and the plateau.
  • Andhra Pradesh is situated near the Bay of Bengal, and hence the climate of this state is usually humid, and the Summers are very unusually hot. The maximum temperature in summers can exceed up to 95°F or 35°C to 104°F or 40°C.
  • Winters are cooler with maximum temperature between 86 to 95°F or 30 to 35°C.
  • Monsoon in Andhra Pradesh is decreased. The coastal region’s rainfall of about 45-47 inches per year.

  • The primary source of the state’s economy is Agriculture and rice is the main crop of agricultural products.
  • Due to the high production of rice in Andhra Pradesh, it is also known as the rice bowl of India.
  • Some of the major agricultural products of Andhra Pradesh are rice, bajra, jawar, wheat, pulses, oil seeds, millet, sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, etc.
  • Andhra Pradesh also constitution 10% of the fish production and in India 70% of Shrimp production is done from Andhra Pradesh.
  • The mineral sources also constitute economic growth, the mineral sources include Chrysolite asbestos, barytes, copper ore, mica, coal, limestone, and manganese.
  • This state is also known as the Ratna Garbha of India as its resources are 110 M tonnes of industrial grade minerals and 200 M tonnes of building materials.
