Anurag Thakur Launched Inaugural VFX And Tech Pavilion At 54th IFFI

 

In a groundbreaking move, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, inaugurated the VFX and Tech Pavilion at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. This pavilion, a first in the history of Film Bazaar by NFDC at IFFI, is set to be a focal point for showcasing the latest advancements in film-making technology, encompassing animation, visual effects, virtual reality, and CGI.

Exploring the VFX and Tech Pavilion: A Glimpse into the Future of Film-Making

  • Minister Thakur took a tour of various sections within the Pavilion, including the Cine Museum and the Viewing Zones of streaming giants Amazon Prime and Netflix. The inspection also involved a firsthand demonstration of Sony’s full frame Cinema Line Cameras.
  • Notably, the Minister engaged with young filmmakers selected under the 75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow initiative and interacted with authors participating in the Book to Box section of the Tech Pavilion.

India’s Phenomenal Growth in Media and Entertainment Industry

  • Expressing pride in India’s rapid ascent from the 10th to the 5th largest media and entertainment economy globally, Shri Thakur envisioned an even brighter future.
  • He stated, “Given the talent and volume of film and media content produced in the country, India will soon become the 3rd largest Media and Entertainment Industry in the world.”

Embracing Technological Interventions: India as a Hub for Film Production

  • Minister Thakur remarked, “India is the most sought-after destination for film shoots and post-production, backed by the talent of our youth and children and the innovation of our industry leaders.”
  • He emphasized the importance of staying ahead of the curve and using evolving technology to not only entertain but also inform and educate audiences.

The Role of Technology in Storytelling: A Creative and Immersive Experience

  • Shri Thakur underscored India’s rich storytelling tradition and the appetite for immersive, creative, and original content.
  • He encouraged content creators to leverage evolving technology in media and film-making, emphasizing the need to focus on both entertainment and educational aspects.

India’s Post-Production Hub: The Significance of VFX and Tech Pavilion

  • Minister Thakur declared, “India is a hub of post-production,” emphasizing that the newly established VFX and Tech Pavilion will further enhance the post-production landscape in film-making.
  • The Pavilion is expected to unveil possibilities and advancements in moviemaking through virtual worlds, intelligent characters, and personalized experiences.

Collaboration with Industry Leaders: Google Arts and Culture, Netflix, and Amazon

  • This year’s VFX and Tech Pavilion boasts participation from esteemed brands such as Google Arts and Culture, Netflix, and Amazon.
  • The collaboration aims to bring forth the expertise of creative and AI professionals, showcasing the magic beyond the camera and exploring the limitless potential of cinematic storytelling.

Accompanied by Dignitaries: Ms. Neerja Sekhar and Mr. Prithul Kumar

  • During the inauguration, Minister Thakur was accompanied by Ms. Neerja Sekhar, Additional Secretary, M/o I&B, and Mr. Prithul Kumar, Joint Secretary (Films), M/o I&B, and Managing Director of NFDC.
  • Their presence signified the government’s commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the Indian film industry.
