Asian Games 2026: India Wins Women’s 4x400m Relay Gold

Gold for India in women’s 4x400m relay at the 2026 Asian Games came through Vithya Ramraj as she clinched the event by running the anchor leg impressively to help the team win in 3:29.69. Team India consisting of Kiran Pahal, M.R. Poovamma, Prachi and Vithya fought hard and won the title against tough competition from Bahrain which got silver in 3:30.21 while China took bronze in 3:31.02. This is an improvement over the previous performance of Indian team which won silver in the event at the previous Asian Games. It was a hat-trick of medals for Vithya at the Asian Games.

Women’s 4x400m Relay – Gold For India

India started from Lane 6 and Kiran Pahal ran the first leg of the race for India and she passed on the baton in third position.

India’s experience runner M.R. Poovamma was responsible for running the second leg and she did very well to keep India in contention for the title.

Prachi who earlier had won bronze in women’s 400m ran the third leg and kept India in contention for the title.

Vithya Ramraj Secures Crucial Third Leg

The third leg became the decisive leg in the race.

Vithya Ramraj was fast into her stride and steadily narrowed the gap. She started pulling away from the pack around the 200 metres and helped position India as contenders for the gold medal.

Salwa Eid Nasr of Bahrain responded well but could not bridge the gap completely as Vithya had already created some distance in the previous leg.

She won the race, ensuring that India secured gold in the event with a time of 3:29.69.

Triple Medal for Vithya Ramraj at Asian Games 2026

Securing the gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay helped Vithya Ramraj clinch the third medal at Asian Games 2026.

Earlier, she had won a bronze medal in women’s 400m hurdles after clocking 54.75 seconds. She broke the Indian national record of 55.42 seconds that was held by P.T. Usha since 1984.

Vithya Ramraj also won a silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay event.

Therefore, she won three medals at the Games including,

• Women’s 4x400m relay: Completed in 3:29.69 and Claimed Gold
• Mixed 4x400m relay: Silver
• Women’s 400m hurdles: Bronze

This is also the perfect ending to India’s track events at the 2026 Asian Games. Kiran Pahal, M.R. Poovamma, Prachi and Vithya all used their individual prowess in their respective legs to secure victory for India.
