Atishi Marlena Set To Be New CM of Delhi

43 year old, Atishi Marlena from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will be the new Chief Minister of state Delhi. She will replace the AAP supremo and party chief Arvind Kejriwal. Decision was taken in the meeting of member of legislative assembly.

About Atishi Marlena

  • Born to Delhi University professors Vijay Singh and Tripta Wahi on June 8, 1981, Atishi Marlena is a Delhi resident, completing her primary education from Springdales School in New Delhi and earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from St. Stephen’s College.
  • Later, she completed her Master’s in the same field from Oxford University and a second master’s in 2005, from Oxford’s Magdalen College as a Rhodes Scholar.
  • Later joined AAP.

Her Political Journey

  • She is one of the senior leader of the AAP.
  • She started her career in social activities
  • As a member of the party’s Manifesto Drafting Committee, she played an important role in shaping the party’s policies on education, grievance redressal via Mohalla Sabhas etc.
  • She served as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and was involved with several other committees, including those focused on Women and Child Welfare, Minority Welfare, and Education.
  • She is the MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) from Kalkaji in New Delhi.
  • Atishi holds multiple critical portfolios, including finance, water, education and others, reflecting her significant role within Delhi Cabinet.

General Information

  • She will succeed the Arvind Kejriwal who was the CM of AAP in Delhi since they have won in Delhi Assembly Election.
  • She will be the third women chief minister of Delhi after Sheila Dikshit and Sushma Swaraj.
  • She will also be the second current women chief minister in the country, following West Bengal’s CM Mamata Banerjee.
