Bank of Baroda Introduces Global UPI Services via bob इ Pay App

In a significant move to enhance the scope of digital payments, Bank of Baroda has rolled out international UPI features on its official app, bob इ Pay. This update enables cross-border UPI transactions, making it easier for resident Indians and NRIs to engage in secure and real-time global payments. With this, the bank becomes one of the first public sector banks to align closely with the evolving global UPI ecosystem.

What’s New in bob इ Pay: A Global Leap

The new features introduced include UPI Global Acceptance, Foreign Inward Remittance, and dedicated UPI access for NRIs. These additions transform bob इ Pay from a domestic payment tool into a global digital transaction platform.

Through UPI Global Acceptance, users can now make payments to international merchants by scanning QR codes using the bob इ Pay app. This facility is currently live in eight countries — Mauritius, Singapore, UAE, USA, France, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan. The app clearly displays transaction amounts in both local currency and Indian Rupees, along with applicable exchange rates and charges, offering complete transparency to users.

Real-Time Money Transfers from Singapore

One of the key features of this upgrade is Foreign Inward Remittance from Singapore. Using this function, senders in Singapore can transfer money in Singapore Dollars to Bank of Baroda customers in India, simply by entering the recipient’s UPI ID. The transaction is processed 24×7 in real-time, and the converted amount in Indian Rupees is directly credited to the recipient’s account.

This is a game-changer for families of Indian residents working in Singapore, offering them a faster and safer way to send money home.

Special Access for NRI Customers

To cater to the needs of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Bank of Baroda has enabled UPI access for those holding NRE (Non-Resident External) or NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) accounts. NRIs can now link these accounts to the bob इ Pay app using their domestic mobile numbers while visiting India.

Once activated, they can send and receive UPI payments, whether it’s peer-to-peer transfers or merchant transactions, just like resident users. This inclusion is expected to significantly boost digital banking usage among overseas Indians.

Transaction Limits and App Usage

All international UPI transactions through the app are governed by the same limits as domestic UPI usage — ₹1,00,000 per transaction and per day. This ensures financial safety while maintaining consistency across platforms.

The bob इ Pay app, launched as an indigenous UPI app by Bank of Baroda, already has a user base of 1.3 million registered users. The app is available for download on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Existing users can activate international UPI services directly through the app settings.
