BBC has appointed Matt Brittin as the new Director-General, and it will be effective from May 18 2026. The 57 year old Google executive assume the charge at a time when the BBC faces several big challenges. One of the challenge is a high profile lawsuit by Donald Trump and ongoing debates over the funding model. His appointment signals the strategic shift toward digital and global media transformation.
Matt Brittin brings extensive experience from the technology sector rather than traditional broadcasting which used to be earlier.

He will succeeds the Tim Davie who has resigned in November 2025 after the controversy over the editing of a speech related to the January 6 United States Capital attack.
The issue was centered on the BBC documentary that combined multiple aspects of Trump’s speech and will leading to allegations of misrepresentation.
