BCCI Awards 2023, Shubman Gill & Ravi Shastri to be honoured

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to honour the exemplary performances in Indian cricket at the NAMAN Awards ceremony in Hyderabad. This prestigious event, held for the first time since 2019, celebrates the achievements of Indian cricketers in the preceding year.

Shubman Gill: Cricketer of the Year 2023

Shubman Gill is slated to receive the Cricketer of the Year award, acknowledging his extraordinary performance in 2023. Gill played 48 matches during the year, amassing an impressive 2,154 runs. His average stood at 46.82, with seven hundred and ten half-centuries across formats. Notably, he scored a century in each of the three formats he played.

IPL 2024: The Orange Cap Winner

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing Gujarat Titans, Gill clinched the Orange Cap for scoring an astounding 890 runs in the 2024 edition.

Ravi Shastri: Lifetime Achievement Award

Ravi Shastri, a former all-rounder and head coach of the Indian cricket team, will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Shastri’s illustrious career includes representing India in 80 Tests and 150 One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring over 3,000 runs in both formats and taking 280 wickets.

Contributions as Head Coach

As a coach, Shastri played a pivotal role in guiding the Indian team to notable achievements, including reaching the knockouts of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final in 2021, the 2019 World Cup, and the 2021 T20 World Cup. Under his tenure, India also secured a historic Test victory at the Gabba against Australia.

Significance of the BCCI Awards

The BCCI Awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of Indian cricketers. They serve as a platform for acknowledging the contributions of players and coaches who have excelled in representing the country at the highest level.

The First NAMAN Awards Since 2019

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BCCI Awards have not held in the past few years. The 2023 ceremony, therefore, marks a significant return of this event, celebrating the achievements of cricketers over the last few years.
