Bihar CM Inaugurates 2 MW Canal-Side Solar Plant in Patna
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a 2 MW canal bank solar project along the Bikram Lock Canal in Patna district. The project, built at zero cost to the state, is part of Bihar’s Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan to promote green and sustainable energy. Developed through a private partnership, the solar plant will supply electricity at ₹3.10 per unit for 25 years and is expected to reduce carbon emissions, boost rural electrification, and inspire similar projects across the state.
The Bikram Lock Canal Solar Project was inaugurated on June 10, 2025, by CM Nitish Kumar. It marks a significant push for renewable energy and eco-friendly development under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Mission. It is the first canal-side solar power project of this kind in the state. The project is notable for being constructed without any burden on the state exchequer.
“We are building solar plants on a large scale using canal, dam, and embankment spaces. It’s not just about energy, but also employment, environmental protection, and economic sustainability. Our focus is to ensure reliable, cheap, and eco-friendly electricity to all.”
