The Bihar Public Service Commission, commonly known as BPSC, is an important constitutional body that selects candidates for government jobs in Bihar. Created in 1949 under Article 315 of the Indian Constitution, the Commission ensures that all recruitment is done fairly and based on merit. Over time, BPSC has helped build a strong administrative system in Bihar by choosing qualified people for various government posts.
BPSC came into existence on April 1, 1949, after separating from the joint commission of Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. Its headquarters is located in Patna. From the beginning, the Commission was established to look after recruitment for state civil services, and since then, it has been conducting exams and interviews for several important posts in Bihar.
The Bihar Public Service Commission works with several key goals:
BPSC is led by a chairman along with several members, all appointed by the Governor of Bihar. These members come from different fields and bring valuable experience. They work independently so that every decision remains unbiased and fair.
BPSC is responsible for holding several important examinations for various state government posts.
This is the most well-known exam of the Commission. It has three stages:
Conducted to recruit civil judges in Bihar. It has Prelims, Mains, and an Interview.
Held for selecting officers for the legal department. It includes written exams and interviews.
BPSC also fills teaching posts in government colleges through written tests and interviews.
Posts like Assistant Engineer, District Art & Culture Officer, and various technical positions are also filled through BPSC.
BPSC plays an essential role in ensuring that the Bihar government gets skilled and capable employees. Its recruitment system is designed to be transparent, unbiased, and merit-based. Because of this, people trust BPSC and believe that deserving candidates get selected. The Commission continues to contribute significantly to Bihar’s administration and development.
