In a groundbreaking achievement, Manvi Madhu Kashyap and two other transgender individuals have made history by becoming the first transwoman sub-inspectors in Bihar Police. Despite facing rejection and discrimination from coaching centers, Kashyap persevered and cleared the Bihar Police Subordinate Selection Commission (BPSSC) exams. Her success marks a significant milestone for transgender rights and representation in law enforcement.
Kashyap’s journey was fraught with challenges due to societal prejudices against her transgender identity. Rejected by multiple coaching centers in Patna, she persisted in her preparations, driven by a determination to succeed against all odds.
Kashyap aims to inspire others in her community, aspiring to return to her village in uniform to demonstrate that dedication and hard work can overcome any obstacle. Her success highlights the potential of transgender individuals to contribute meaningfully to society if given equal opportunities.
Transgender activist Reshma Prasad emphasizes the importance of celebrating Kashyap’s achievement while urging other transgender persons to join in advocating for the community’s rights and welfare. The National Council for Transgender Persons (NCTP) plays a crucial role in advising the government on policies affecting transgender individuals, established under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
Following a directive from the Patna High Court, Bihar’s government has taken steps to integrate transgender individuals into police services, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and diversity in public sector employment.
