Centre Appoints New Chiefs of BPR&D, NCRB and SVPNPA: Key Details You Should Know
On 6th of June, 2026 Central Government appointed new heads for three important police institutions in India, the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved these appointments. This is a big step in the direction of police modernization, crime statistics management, and training of IPS officers in India.
Alok Kumar Mittal, an IPS officer of 1993 batch from Haryana cadre has been appointed as Director General of Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D).
His term will continue till 30 June 2029 or till further order
BPR&D plays an important role in improving the policing standards through research, development of policies, modernization and training.
Amit Garg, an IPS officer of 1993 batch from the Andhra Pradesh cadre has been appointed as Director of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
For this appointment, Director’s post has been temporarily upgraded to Director General level for the time being.
Sujeet Pandey, an IPS Officer of the 1994 batch of UP cadre has been named as Director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad.
He will hold this position till 31 July 2028 or till further orders from the government.
SVPNPA is the premier institution in India for police training which trains Indian Police Service(IPS) officers and is one of the most important institutions involved in developing future police leaders.
